JLB’s Eco-committee were nominated by their class-mates. They are the driving force of the Eco Schools programme, and make sure that the whole school community are represented in the decision-making process.
There are three levels of award in the Eco Schools scheme - Bronze, Silver and Green Flag. We have gained both our Bronze and Silver Awards and we are now working towards gaining our Green Flag.
There are ten topics in the Eco Schools programme. They are Litter, Waste Minimisation, Energy, Water, Transport, Health and well-being, School Grounds, Biodiversity, Food and the Environment and Sustaining our World. At the moment, the committee are concentrating on three areas - litter, waste minimisation and school grounds. Some of the things that they have organised for these areas include paper and plastic recycling, composting, and community litter picks. Our action plans are detailed below.
The Eco Schools scheme is an international programme, which is designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. We want to make sure that we involve the whole community in this scheme, so watch out for anything you may want to get involved with!
